The Crab Dribble Episode 2.19, The King’s Crowned

Episode 2.19

The Crab Dribble puts a bow on the 2011-2012 season by praising The Chosen One for finally reaching the top of the mountain. Not everyone on the podcast is pleased with the outcome, but we also dissect the lottery picks in the upcoming NBA Draft. The season may be over, but TCD lives on.

The Crab Dribble Episode 2.13, Making Noise

Episode 2.13

It’s time for The Crab Dribble’s playoff preview! We break down each series, each game, each quarter, each … OK, we just make our first round picks. It’s timely, considering the playoffs start right now. Listen to the show, and tell us what’s what.

The Crab Dribble Episode 2.11, Playoff positioning

Episode 2.11

The Crab Dribble returns with Episode 2.11. This episode finds the guys discussing possible playoff matchups that have likely changed since the discussion. They’ve probably changed again as you read this. The guys also ask “Is he the Answer?” and take part in perhaps the worst game of “Jason Vs.” in the history of man. It’s fun, so listen however you listen and let us know what you think.

The Crab Dribble Episode 2.8, The Return

Episode 2.8

The hiatus is back off, again. The Crab Dribble returns after a brief break to get you caught up on All-Star Weekend festivities, and what they mean for the second half of the season. We also answer some fan mail, and it’s not too kind. Join us, won’t you?

The Power 5

Every Tuesday, The Crab Dribble will bring you “The Power 5,” a ranking of the best five teams in the NBA for the previous week. Here at TCD, we don’t use a complicated mathematical formula or complex statistical analysis to determine the best teams – we just call them like we see them. Don’t agree? Let us hear about it in the comments section.

1). Oklahoma City Thunder (19-5)

The Thunder have reclaimed the top spot this week, on the strength of wins over Dallas, Memphis and Portland. They did suffer a hiccup in a loss to the suddenly-hot Spurs (see below), but there’s little doubt the Thunder are among the league’s elite. Kevin Durant continues to pour in buckets, and Russell Westbrook has turned up his play a notch, averaging over 25 points and six assists in his last 10 games. It’s hard to judge them against Miami and Chicago as they haven’t played, but for right now, the league’s best team may well reside in Oklahoma City. (more…)

Thursday linkage: Feb. 2, 2012

We’re a day late with the linkage. But hopefully those 24 hours only made the payoff that much sweeter.

* Doug Collins, never one to repress his emotions, has never been more proud. I gently mock him, but no joke, Collins is doing one hell of a job in Philly.

* I love Kevin Durant’s comments about the big Blake Griffin dunk this week. And to be honest, it was kind of a layup. Kind of.

* Besides, everyone knows the real basketball fans were talking about Reggie Evans after that game anyway.

* Chris Kaman is suddenly rumored to be going just about everywhere. Another intriguing entry in the sweepstakes (is it a sweepstakes???) – your Cleveland Cavaliers.

* Who’s the other center in the NBA rumored to be on the trading block? Oh, right, right, Dwight Howard. Yeah, I’m really starting to like this idea of Dwight to the Bulls. I think it might be the best fit of any the possible destinations we’ve heard so far.

1). Miami Heat (16-5)

Winners of five in a row and eight of their last nine, the Heat have ascended into the top spot on the strength of their quality wins this year. Already, Miami owns wins over the Mavs, Pacers, Hawks, Spurs, Lakers, 76ers and Bulls, with four of those coming by double digits. LeBron James is playing at an MVP level, Dwyane Wade is getting healthy and Chris Bosh appears a lot more comfortable in his role this year. The Heat still have some holes in their rotation, but it would be a surprise if they’re not competing for the top seed in the playoffs.  (more…)

The Crab Dribble Episode 2.5, Love it or leave it

Episode 2.5

The Crab Dribble has entered The Lockout Zone, and lived to tell about it. This week’s episode breaks down Kevin Love’s new contract, players not receiving contract offers and the Orlando Magic’s disappearing act. It’s all there, you just have to listen.  Please leave comments at www.thecrabdribble.com or on iTunes.

1). Chicago Bulls (16-3)

The Bulls just continue to roll along, despite injuries to Derrick Rose and a lackluster start to the season from Joakim Noah. John Lucas and CJ Watson filled in admirably for Rose, and the Bulls boast incredible depth to go with their stingy defense. However, the loss of Luol Deng (torn ligaments in his wrist) will test them, as Deng’s versatility made him a perfect fit on the roster. But until someone proves otherwise, the NBA’s best team resides in the Windy City. (more…)

"I've made a huge mistake." (G.O.B. Bluth voice)

Here we go like Jimmy Dean cooking sausage on the farm. One link after another.

* Remember a year ago? It was Melo Mania. Would the Nuggets trade Carmelo Anthony? Would they not? Where would he wind up? Who could the Nuggets get in return? Where would LaLa’s reality show be filmed?

The answer of course proved to be New York. And a year later Danilo Gallinari is among those who think the whole thing was a bad idea for the Knicks.

Shaun Powell was way ahead of the game on that one.

* The Pacers are off to a 9-3 start. So why do they rank 26th in attendance?

* Speaking of hot starts, what’s up with Philly? Joel Huerto breaks down the secret to their success.

* One of the NBA’s poorest defensive teams – my Boston Celtics. Unreal, isn’t it? Now they’re taking solace in moral victories.

* And last but not least we applaud Jamaal Tinsley’s “intellectual cowboy” look just perfect for the crisp winter air in the mountains of that Salt Lake.

Ben Walpole is a producer, blogger and intellectual cowboy of sorts for The Crab Dribble. Readers can, nay should, nay MUST, follow him on Twitter @TCDBen.

1). Oklahoma City Thunder (12-2)

The Thunder have the best record in the league, have won seven in a row, and have effectively put the minor dustup between Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook in the rearview mirror. The loss of backup point guard Eric Maynor may hurt them at some point during the year, but right now, OKC is cruising. (more…)

End of the Bench, Volume 2.4

There are questions about LeBron’s fourth-quarter play. Kobe is raining baskets from all over the court. Dirk is hitting game-winners. Charles Barkley is making his opinion known about…well…everything. What does it all mean? Well for one, it means EOTB needs to get a hobby. But it also is a sure sign the NBA season is heating up, and with the weather outside turning frightful, you’ve got no good reason not to immerse yourself in the action.

So pull up a chair and let’s try to make sense of it all from the best seat in the house.

– John Hollinger, ESPN’s statistics guru, has published his power rankings, and interestingly enough, Philadelphia sits at the top. EOTB has always felt if you cherry-pick enough stats, you can find support for almost argument, no matter how illogical, and this is no different. Turns out Hollinger’s formula doesn’t factor in wins or winning percentage. Makes perfect sense, doesn’t it? If you want to determine the best team, you certainly don’t want to look at how many games they’ve won, right? (more…)

Wednesday linkage: Jan. 4, 2012

It’s the best Wednesday of the year so far. So let’s take a trip around the league.

* Rookie sensation Norris Cole isn’t competing against Mario Chalmers for minutes. They actually work well together.

* And here we thought the rush of player movement was about over. The Bleacher Report says, ‘Not so fast, my friend.”

* Lee Eric Smith of 3 Shades Of Blue is pumped up about the big trade going down this morning.

* The fans (read the comments section) in Philly are not so pumped about the big trade going down this morning.

* Timothy Varner of 48 Minutes Of Hell breaks down the fallout in San Antonio following Manu Ginobili’s broken hand.

* I, for one, foresaw big things for the Washington Wizards this season. I thought those new uniforms alone would be good for an eight seed in the East. But wow, the Wiz iz off to a terrible, terrible start. The guys at Truth About It attempt to sift through the wreckage, touching on such topics as a potential coaching change and the possibility of, dare I say, trading for Demarcus Cousins.

* Here. YOU try to sort out the Golden State backcourt.

The Crab Dribble Episode 39, Getting picked

Episode 39

The Crab is back after a nice vacation, and we’re breaking down the rookie class and all things NBA Draft.

Draft breakdown: Atlantic

The 2011 NBA Draft is in the books, and we can only hope that the pending lockout doesn’t get in the way of seeing these new rookies take the floor. The draft had a strong international influence, and while it may be short on superstars, it’s certainly got plenty of interesting storylines. How will Jimmer be welcomed into the Sacramento locker room? Will Brandon Knight’s basketball IQ be wasted in Detroit? Will Raptors fans even bother showing up next season?

But don’t worry. In case you missed portions of the draft while Googling “Jan Vesely’s girlfriend,” TCD is here to recap it for you, division by division. As always, let us know what you think on Twitter and Facebook, and be sure to check out our mock draft on the latest podcast. I promise I called Nolan Smith going #21, no matter what you may hear. (more…)

But if you want to know who has an edge in the first round, look no further than The Crab Dribble Playoffs Preview.

The Crab Dribble Episode 27: Judge-mental

Episode 27

It’s Episode 27, and we’re nearing the end.
